Verinag, located in the lap of the majestic Pir Panjal range, is one of the most picturesque destinations, sharing a long history in Kashmir. The spring here is known for its aerial beauty and grassy gardens. Verinag is an ideal retreat for travelers who would love to explore Kashmir's timeless beauty and rich heritage.


### The Journey to Verinag


My journey to Verinag started from Srinagar. It was a scenic 78-kilometer drive through winding roads, dense pine forests, and charming villages. The journey itself was mesmerizing, offering stunning views of the Kashmir Valley and glimpses of local life. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the soothing sounds of flowing water and the refreshing aroma of nature.


### The Famous Verinag Spring


The attraction to the place is in the magnificent spring, the source for the Jhelum River. Encased in an octagonal stone structure, built by Mughal Emperor Jahangir way back in early 17th century, it exudes royal charm. The springs reflect their crystal clear waters against the sky and greenery of the surroundings in a breathtakingly beautiful scene.


### Mughal Gardens and Architecture


Beautifully designed Mughal gardens, with terraced lawns, chinar trees, and flowers, surround the spring. The symmetrical beauty of the gardens, along with the remnants of Mughal architecture, took me back to an era of grandeur and elegance.


### Activities in Verinag


Apart from its historical and natural beauty, there are many activities that can be done in Verinag:


- **Leisure Walks:** A peaceful walk amidst serene gardens where it is perfect for photography and people can spend some time in relaxation.

- **Picnicking:** Families and nature lovers can picnic by the spring amidst lush greenery.

- **Exploring Local Culture:** It is possible to join villagers for a feast in the villages and get in touch with warm locals who invite and teach the visitor new traditions while indulging in authentic Kashmiri cuisine.


### Best Time to Visit


Verinag is a year-round destination, but the best time to visit is from March to October, when the weather is pleasant, and the gardens are in full bloom. During winters, the area is covered in a blanket of snow, offering a different yet equally mesmerizing experience.
