**A Journey to Gurez Valley: Kashmir's Hidden Paradise**
Gurez Valley, a pristine and less-explored gem of Kashmir, is a destination that leaves visitors spellbound with its raw beauty, majestic landscapes, and rich cultural heritage. Nestled in the high Himalayas near the Line of Control (LoC), Gurez offers an experience unlike any other, making it a must-visit for those seeking peace, adventure, and a glimpse into an untouched paradise.
The Journey to Gurez Valley
My journey to Gurez Valley was from Srinagar, and the distance was about 123 kilometers. It was an adventure in itself: winding roads, dense forests, and panoramic views that grew more breathtaking as we ascended. The famous Razdan Pass at over 11,500 feet provided a wonderful viewpoint to view the vast expanse of nature.
### Enchanting Beauty of Gurez
Gurez was such a place which offered the vision of the giant Habba Khatoon Peak named after the well-known Kashmiri poetess. Along with Kishanganga River, that meanders in the valley, this created an awe-inspiring view.
#### Habba Khatoon Peak
It is one of the beautiful mountains that are an epitome of love and courage. Its grandeur gives travelers and photographers an awe-inspiring background.
Kishanganga River
The crystal clear water of the Kishanganga River makes it a perfect place to unwind, enjoy fishing, and go out for a nature walk or two.
#### **Dawar Village**
Dawar is the biggest town in Gurez and gives a glimpse of the Dard-Shina culture. Wooden huts, lovely locals, and simple yet rich Kashmiri food made my trip worthwhile.
### Adventure and Activities
It is heaven for adventure seekers:
- **Trekking:** Quite a number of trekking trails do surround it, leading to fantastic locations, such as the scenic Tulail Valley and some high altitude lakes nearby.
- **Camping:** The area is suitable for camping in the meadows with serene surroundings under the star-lit sky.
- **Photography:** Every corner of Gurez is a photographer's haven, with its beautiful scenery and richness in culture.
### Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Gurez Valley is from June to September, when the weather is pleasant, and the valley is accessible. Winters, though mesmerizing, bring heavy snowfall, making travel difficult.

My visit to Gurez Valley was completely fairy tale. The untouched beauty, peaceful ambiance, and cultural richness of this hidden paradise make it a must-visit for anyone looking to explore Kashmir beyond the usual tourist spots.
