Ambala is affectionately called the "Twin City." It represents a perfect amalgamation of history, culture, and modernity. Situated in the northern state of Haryana, it acts as an entry point to the neighboring states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh. As we entered Ambala, the first thing that struck us was its dual identity—Ambala Cantt (Cantonment) and Ambala City. Though two parts of the city are very different from each other in their character, they still live in concord. Ambala Cantt is a city of war importance, whereas Ambala City is a hub of commerce and trade. Together they weave an interesting tapestry of tradition and modernity.

Discovery of Historical Monuments:

Our sojourn started with a visit to the Holy Redeemer Church in Ambala Cantt, a beautiful church constructed in the colonial era, under British rule. The Gothic architecture along with serene surroundings makes people feel as if they are in a different time period. Another historical monument is Bhawani Amba Temple, from which the city's name is derived. The ancient temple dedicated to Goddess Amba is a place one should visit for spiritual rejuvenation.

The Jain Mandir is also a symbol of the cultural diversity of the city, with its intricately carved architecture and peaceful ambiance. Each site narrates a story of Ambala's rich and varied past.
Relishing Ambala's Culinary Delights

The gastronomical paradise called Ambala cannot be imagined without tasting its specialties. The city is paradise to foodies as its platters of traditional North Indian stuff and street food that goes very well with it are plentiful in the city. At some of the local dhabas, we tried to digest piping hot paranthas followed by jalebis and pethas.

Indian pickles and papads are a favorite, all across this country, and we tried them as souvenirs to take back.

Shopping and Urban Charm

Ambala is a shopper’s delight, especially for those looking for textiles and garments. The cloth markets here are renowned for their quality and variety, attracting buyers from across the country. Walking through the bustling bazaars, we encountered a mix of modern retail stores and traditional shops, showcasing the city’s vibrant commerce.

For a dose of serenity, we went to the nearby Sisganj Sahib Gurudwara, which was surrounded by lush greenery. The peaceful surroundings, coupled with the soulful hymns, provided an ideal escape from the city's hustle and bustle. Patel Park in Ambala Cantt was another refreshing retreat, perfect for an evening stroll or a family picnic.
