Jyotirlingas are considered the holiest abodes of Lord Shiva. The term "Jyotirlinga" is a compound in the Sanskrit language meaning "radiance" and "linga," which translates into "sign." They do not symbolize idols but represent the actual appearance of Lord Shiva. 

Let's talk a little about the 12 Jyotirlingas found in India:-
Somnath Jyotirlinga:

Located in Somnath, Gujarat, it is one of the most revered Jyotirlingas. This temple is associated with a rich history; it was destroyed and rebuilt several times.  
Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga: Located in Srisailam, Andhra Pradesh, the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati. This temple complex is enhanced by girdling lush green forests as well as serene lakes.
Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga: This is one of the very old Jyotirlingas, situated in Ujjain of Madhya Pradesh. Here, the linga is said to be Swayambhu that means self-originated.  Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga: Omkareshwar is placed on an island of Narmada River in Madhya Pradesh. The temple is built in the shape of the holy syllable 'Om'.
Kedarnath Jyotirlinga: This temple falls on Garhwal Himalayas, Uttarakhand. This is an extremely sacred shrine in Hinduism. It is accessible only during summer months.   Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga: Situated in Pune district, Maharashtra, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva in the form of Bhima.
Vishwanath Jyotirlinga: It is one of the most celebrated and revered temples among the devout Hindus, built in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. This temple is an abode to Lord Shiva who is also known as Vishwanath.  
Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga: Situated in Nashik, Maharashtra, this shrine has three lingas representing Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh (Shiva).
Baidyanath Jyotirlinga : This is located in Deoghar, Jharkhand and is known as the 'Divine Physician'.  
Nageshwar Jyotirlinga : This temple is located in Dwarka, Gujarat. He is worshipped as the 'Lord of Serpents'.
Rameshwaram Jyotirlinga: Found in Rameshwaram Island, Tamil Nadu, it holds a relation with the mythology of Ramayana. As per it, Lord Rama had done the worship of Shiva here just to get rid of the sin of killing Ravana.  
Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga: It is found in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. This is the last of the 12 Jyotirlingas and carries out intricate carvings and beautiful architecture.
The visit to these holy shrines is considered to be a deeply spiritual experience. The worshippers truly believe that offering prayers at these Jyotirlingas would bless them, bring peace to their lives, and fill their lives with prosperity.
